10 Millennial Women That Are Kicking Ass and Taking Names

If you haven’t heard, March is women’s history month. I have a lot of feelings about these months or ad hoc holidays dedicated to the observance and celebration of minority groups who have contributed plenty of their skills and knowledge to the betterment of society. An issue I have with women’s history month is that it allows people to become socially inclined to only praise women during this short time period.

If you take anything from this article, please continue to support and follow female leaders past the month of March, and encourage your peers to do the same. It was nearly impossible to choose only ten millennial women for this list. There are so many more that exist and I’m uncovering new trailblazers each day, but for now these are my top ten millennial women that are kicking ass and taking names.

1. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

This influential latina you may have heard of, she’s the 29-year-old Bronx native who was just elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Not only is that impressive on its own, but she’s also a Democratic socialist who unseated a 10-term congressman in NY. If that’s not badass, I don’t know what is.

2. Anna Valencia

Another feminist politico dream, Anna Valencia was sworn in as Chicago’s City Clerk in January 2017. Her goal is to make city services more accessible to all the people of Chicago. She is the second Latina to hold office for this position and is passionate about women’s rights and the Chicago Public School system.

3. Yiqing “Pocket” Sun

This 27-year-old Chinese native immigrated to the US in 2009. She became the co-founder of a multi-million-dollar venture capitalist firm after experiencing how male-dominated the venture capitalist industry can be. Her VC firm,SoGal ventures is a female-led, millennial venture capital firm operating in the multi-million-dollar range.

4. Cassandra Levesque

At 19 years old Cassandra ran for the U.S. House of Representatives after attempting to abolish child marriage in the state of New Hampshire. She was elected as a Democrat from the Strafford 4 district in 2018.

5. Andreja Pejic

This Bosnian-Australian beauty is a top supermodel and now successful actress, recently starring in The Girl in the Spider’s Web. She came out as a trans woman in 2013 and has been one of the most sought after runway models ever since.

6. Jennifer Lambert/Jihan Thomas

These ladies are business partners so I’m grouping them together (my article, my rules). They are the co-founders of SWIVEL Beauty. The app connects women of color to hair professionals across the US. If you didn’t know, it’s extremely difficult to find a hair stylist that can properly style black women’s hair. Lambert and Thomas saw an opportunity to fill this need. Even before becoming tech entrepreneurs Lambert attended Harvard Law School and Thomas had an education from the University of Pennsylvania.

7. Tara Baker

Frustrated with the state of the current wedding industry, Baker partnered with her fiancé to create a wedding magazine dedicated to LGBTQ+ brides. “Dancing With Her” started as a mini digital magazine and soon skyrocketed to hold a global readership of 85,000 people per month.

8. Alice Brooks

You might have seen Brooks and her partner on ABC’s hit show Shark Tank. As an ivy league educated engineer Brooks saw a lack of toy options for girls that would encourage them to be creative and explore the world of engineering and building. She and her partner developed Roominate, a now very successful toy line that allows children to create structures with full mechanics and circuits. As a result, Roominate has won Forbes “Top 10 Toys to Watch in 2015,” TIME “Toy of the Year” and 2015 TOTY Finalist.

9. Jessica Williams

Ever since then she has become an iconic ball buster who advocates for women’s equality. Her comedic skills and political know-how have made her a fan favorite and you can currently catch her and her gal pal Phoebe Robinson on their hit HBO stand-up show “2 Dope Queens”!

Four Books You Need to Have on Your Fall Reading List.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han 

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks; Netflix released a new original film titled, To All the Boys I Loved Before based on the novel by the same name. The novel follows Lara Jean, and how she handles the aftermath of when secret love letters she’d written to her former crushes actually get sent out to their (un)intended recipients. The film does a great job depicting the thoughts, feelings, and fears of any young woman who has experienced unrequited love. Not to mention, introduced us to our new #MCE Noah Centineo. However, everyone knows the book is always better than the movie so get yourself a copy ASAP.

Ah, who doesn’t love a good ol’ Spike Lee joint? The film BlackKklansmen is actually based on a true story. Black Klansmen is a memoir by Ron Stallworth, a former New York City police officer who goes undercover to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan. If you’re like me, and love comparing and contrasting the difference between page and screen, this is a must-read.

Maybe it's just me, but Leo season took me the fuck out.  This last Mercury retrograde was probably one of the most intense transits we've had this year, Now we've cruised into Full Moon mode, and although it comes with a powerful lesson, the waves are chill. The Moon in Pisces reminds us that shit doesn't have to hurt so much. We don't have to hold onto all of the tragedies of the world, and that's okay. To move fluidly through life you've got to know when to stop and settle yourself down. Your waves don't always have to be crashing, sometimes you can be still and serene. The energy that's surrounding us is very simple, tell the truth and be okay with what you feel. Honor your emotional self because of emotions we have intuition, trust what you know is certain.

Love Yo' Self Spells

I've been feeling the loving vibes from my Sun sign (Aquarius) passing through.  I've been extremely tuned into myself, and to my emotions. Realizing that it was time for a massive spiritual cleansing, I took to learning how to create and work love spells. Growing up I was always afraid of love spells, as a child I remember family conversations of women chaining men to them through spaghetti. I also remember the scene in "Practical Magic" and that woman was so obsessed with a man that she couldn't stand it. Those always seemed wild and extreme to me because I've always felt like love should be given freely. How people receive your love is on them, but how you give it is on you. 

As I've grown my curiosity of witchcraft into an entire part of my life, I've continuously been learning day by day of what type of magick I possess, and what I can create.  I run off of love, and for a long time I could never admit that to myself. I prefered to keep a hard exterior instead of allowing my entire being to radiate the compassion that I felt inside. As I began seeing past preconceived ideas of love spells, I began to try my hand at creating my own.  Adding Rose Quartz to my crystal collection, and diving into figuring out what it was that I need.  I found out that I speak through music and written words. I found my love of writing love letters to people who matter to me again. As I work these spells I notice the way that my spirit is responding, I am facing myself in a way that once would have scared me. I'm realizing that those shadows that lurked in my past are not bad, but are lessons that I needed.  My intuition is my biggest allie and I always trust it.

When working spells of the heart, be mindful that no matter if the outcome is meant for you or another. The truth will always come forward, because to love anything or anyone the truth must be revealed.  Asking the spirit guides for their help in aiding your self love spells is asking for every door you've ever had to open and confront you. Because to love yourself, you must know yourself first.

I'm still new at creating my own spells and rituals, but that doesn't make them not real. No matter where you are on your journey your magick is as strong as you want/need it to be. With that being said, I've included a spell that I created and that I've tried from other people!

 

Attracting Love To You , From You

This spell is for some self induced TLC! Creating your reality is all about your perception, so if you believe the spell will work... It will.  I'm in no way saying the result will be instant, nor am I saying that you'll even see some major effect. Spells work differently for different people, at least that's what I've learned. 

What You'll Need:

1. Pink, Red, or White candle(s)
2. Rose Quartz / Citrine
3. A clear and grounded space, sage your work space and meditate (dance, sing, whatever you do to go into your own spirit). 
4. Stand in the mirror, find yourself. Invision a white light engulfing you. 
5. Orange oil (or your favorite oil!) 

Recite:

   My spirit is full of lust, love and compassion.

I seek truth and guidance from my intuition and (any other god/dess, fairies, spirit guides, guardian angels,etc) that protect me. 

My love is my own to give as freely as I see fit, and to take back whenever I feel the need to. 

end the spell with whatever you like to send it off with. 

Extra Tips:

1. You can also write this spell down on any mirroring surface. Working with mirrors is a very direct and all walls down type of practice. By writing these words down, you are asking for them to reflect onto your present life. So be mindful when using mirrors in your practices.  
2. Write this spell down on a piece of paper, bless it and carry it with you until you feel like you don't need to any longer. 
3. Sleep with the written spell! You can place it underneath your pillow or lay it beside you before you go to bed.

Happy Valentine's Day/Week everyone! I absolutely love, Valentine's Day it has recently become one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. As I continue my journey of higher self and deeper understanding , love has become my go to emotion. I find myself crying over happy things, I've become more compassionate to myself and to others, and I've just fallen in love with love itself. I've also come face to face with parts of myself that I had thought I had forgotten long about. Love is deeper than just what society has made us believe, love begins and ends with us as individuals.  How you love yourself and  how you love other people are most important. Only we can decide how our hearts beat outside of our chests. 

Loving yourself comes with knowing your ins and outs, the demons and the angels, and listening to your intuition.  Letting yourself feel whatever emotions rise to the surface, acknowledging the habits that we have carried since childhood and ones we have picked up along the way.  This week many showcase their love for their partners, friends, and family members. Yet we often forget to tend to our own needs during such a magical and special time of the year. 

Allow yourself to heal, cry, smile, laugh, etc. Experience your own self love.

Physically no one wants to get shocked by electricity, but spiritually that's a whole other ball game! With water sign Pisces floating it's way into the sun soon allow their empathetic ways to flow into your own journey. Let that shock to your spiritual system light you up and create whatever your heart desires. Is that easier said than done? Of course! However, you have an opportunity to focus on doing what makes your soul happy. Take a new cooking class, go sky diving, pick up an old activity that you haven't done in awhile. Take off your white hat, and throw on your shades! It's time you relax in paradise and turn that phone of yours OFF! You don't always have to be so accessible, there is happiness in being your own friend.  The same way you're always there for your pals, be there for yourself! Don't look at it as selfishness, but as a necessary vacation. You can go back to being captain save a homie later on!

Multitasking is your ultimate jam, you dominate when you have a full plate. Sometimes having a full plate means rushing to get things done , and when you rush you don't give the task at hand your full attention. Time is manmade, it is literally what you make of it. You don't see animals rushing to do whatever it is that they do, they just do it on their own time, and at their own pace!  Nothing that inhabits this planet rushes, except for us! Slow your roll, and enjoy your present life! Remember that you can have everything and then some if you just tap the brakes a bit!

New Moon in Aquarius.

Tomorrow's new moon in Aquarius is welcomed with open arms, and it's still Aquarius season so I'm feeling all of the love right now. New moon's have become one of my favorite times, it's when I shut myself off and check in mentally. Of course everyone uses their time differently, but I will say that allowing yourself to be grounded is a necessity. Turn off your phone, take yourself out to eat, run a hot bath, read a book, write, etc... Do whatever your spirit is wanting to do, listen to yourself and trust that whatever you conjure up know that it is destined to be yours if you want  it to be.  

Use this time to ask yourself the truth. What is it that you want out of this life? What are you doing to be present in your manifestations? What messages are your spirit guides giving you? What part of your self needs some extra attention? These are the questions that you should be asking yourself right now. Utilize the energy that the moon's blessing us with this weekend, there's no better time than the present to live the life you're meant for.

1. Turn Off Social Media

It's been one hell of a week, and it's okay to check out of it all. Detach yourself from the world's issues and allow your mind to declutter. Go out into the world, hang out with your girls or your family. Go for a walk, and just sit in nature for a while.  Give in to the beauty of the world we live in and appreciate her for all that she's blessed us with. 

2. Take A Bath

(or shower!) with your favorite scents that make you feel centered and to add a little boost of energy. Use the crystal(s) that coincide with your personal manifestations, allow yourself to submerge in your own world. Get your favorite bath bomb, essential oils (peppermint oil is my jam right now), and your crystals and sit in the tub! Read a book, drink a glass of wine (or juice), and let your body speak to you! 

3 . Do A Self Reading

I like to do a self reading during the new and full moon phases, I tend to find hidden messages from my spirit guides and those messages help me process my current phase better. Whatever your personal form of spiritual connection is. Use this time of self reflection to get to know your own guides better. 

4. Take A Walk

There's nothing like going for a stroll in your favorite park, or going for a hike with friends! Being out in nature is the perfect way to find comfort in yourself, be inspired by the breeze, trees, green grass, or whatever is around you. Allow yourself to check out mentally and just flow with the vibes of nature! 

5. Meditate

I light my candles, and cleanse my space with sage! I do this once a week any way, but since it is my daily ritual I always make sure to incorporate it into my new moon ritual as well. I also like to stretch during this time! Yoga, or just simple stretches always help me find my center! Also lighting a energizing  incense scent can really add extra comfort to your meditation space. 

 

6. Write Your New Moon Intentions.

This is a time for allowing yourself to dream and manifest your wildest dreams. Write down these intentions, write everything that you want to bring into your life. Whether that be love, financial stability, or even if you just want to be more organized. No matter what your intentions are they are yours, and once you write them down you are solidifying them. So be mindful about what you ask the universe to provide you with.
