How To: Write a Resume Without Zero Experience
By Kirsten F.
“Your resume is how people get a glimpse of who you are before actually meeting you.”
Via Google/FOX
If you’re like me then your list of job experience is as short as Amber Rose’s hair. Your resume looks so empty that you’re almost embarrassed by it, and its lack of content. This is for the people who didn’t have jobs in high school and opted out of college or the military. This is also for the people who went through a depressive state right after high school. I mean sure, if you find something useful from this, then this is for you to. I’m here to tell you how my resume has only one official job, and a butt-load of experience on it.
When I was high school, I was very nonchalant about everything. Working was never something that crossed my mind, and college, well… That’s a story for a later date. However I was very active during both of those times (Girl Scouts, 4-H, all sorts of after school activities). Eventually it was time for me to get a job, because obviously I had to grow up + make big girl money, because I had big girl responsibilities. This first job I ever applied for (and got) was a summer camp counselor and the only experience I had thus far was the occasional babysitting, 10+ years of summer camp knowledge and LOTS of other activities that I did in my various clubs. I also included my various interests on my resume; creating my own Myspace from scratch became my career as a blogger, being a teen leader in 4-H became my child care experience, knowing how to use different html codes turned into “some” web design knowledge. It’s okay if you’ve never held a job with a paycheck, it’s also okay to use your life experiences as a job.
A year ago I got one of the best opportunities of my life, I was chosen as an Intern for one of my favorite music venues. However I feel like my resume was what got me noticed in the first place, do I know that for sure? No, but your resume is how people get a glimpse of who you are before actually meeting you. Putting a flair of personality into your resume is ALWAYS something you should do. For instance, when I wrote about my experience as a summer camp counselor I wrote the lyrics to the camp song as part of my description. My networking name became KirstenReneeSAYS, my social media platform. My everyday mundane activities became my “work” experiences. Instead of being boring and just describing the experience. I added stories, and a couple of exclamation point’s.
“It’s also okay to use your life experiences as a job.”
Here’s the thing, you DON’T have to have worked in fast food as a teen, or had thousands of internships, or even have had a job at all… The simple fact that you do stuff is experience in itself, depending on what field you go into! If you volunteer somewhere that’s technically work experience, you’re just not getting paid for it! Now listen, I’m not telling you to Google a bunch of stuff and then decide to be a teacher. I am however, telling you that just because you don’t seem to have “it” on paper, doesn’t mean that you don’t have the skills for the job.
If you know what you want, go for it. Even if you don’t meet all the requirements, apply any way! Who knows, they very well could just take a chance on you and that’s what career hunting is all about. Taking chances, making connections and letting this world know that you’re doing what you want, HOW you want.
How a Facebook Post Helped Me Find My Own Happiness
By Emery W.
“If you are unhappy, change something. Quit your job. Move. Leave your miserable relationship. Sto`12p making excuses. You are in control.”
via Google
I don’t know who ultimately put these words together, but they are a double-edged sword for the most part. I remember when I first saw this going around as a post on Facebook, I laughed. “If only it was this easy,” I said to myself before continuing to scroll down my News Feed.
I had been working at the preschool for about a year, I was making just enough to pay all of my bills, and while I wished I made more, I was safe. Since I don’t have my own car, I had co-workers who always made sure I got to work on time every day, and trying to find another job could ruin my chances of that. Then it dawned on me, I can’t rely on other people to get me to and from for the rest of my life. Despite my boss giving me a .25 cent raise, it wasn’t enough to save up for a car, and make sure I had enough to save for a new apartment in the Winter. Add in emergency expenses, gas money to my rides, food, and the occasional new pair of work pants, I wasn’t able to keep up.
When it got to the point where I couldn’t go a week without having an anxiety attack, and I was snapping at my boyfriend every other day, I knew there was a problem. He and I had a deep heart-to-heart, and figured out that I never did anything that made me happy; karaoke, writing, seeing my friends, none of it. The passion that I once had for these things was no longer there. I never wanted to see my friends because when we went out, they always had to pay for me. After a while, I just stopped going out because I didn’t want to seem like a bum. Granted, most of my friends still live at home (lucky), and understand that I have higher priorities than getting drunk every weekend. Not that I wanted to, but I wanted the option. One day, I got home from work, and decided to make a change. I was going to force myself to write something. No matter how bad, I was going to take a thought, write it down, and finish it.
I put on my headphones, pressed play on the Hamilton soundtrack, and got to work on a novel. I finished the first chapter, hated it, but kept it, and vowed to keep going. Soon, I was writing every day, and started smiling again. A few weeks went by, and I saw a post about a start-up online magazine wanting submissions. From that moment on, a fire was lit under my ass, and I knew what I needed to do; follow a dream, and do what I love.
“I was going to force myself to write something.”
I watched from the sideline for two years as my boyfriend, continued to follow his heart, and turn his passion into an income, and always felt that my job was to support him, and make enough money to keep a roof over our heads. Not anymore. I had taken the first step in taking control of my life. Of course, I still needed a day job since writing for a start-up doesn’t make any money (yet), and at the end of the day, we were both doing what we loved, and still struggling.
After a rough day at work that sent me into a full-blown panic attack during my lunch break, I went out on a whim, and applied for a new job that I was sure would offer me more money. Sure enough, two days later I got the call for an interview, nailed said interview the next day, and they were offering me a title, more money than I originally asked for, and benefits. What? Was this real life? I couldn’t believe it. I went home and cried because for once, things were starting to look up. Now only would I be making enough to finally save up for a car, and pay moving costs come December, but I’d be moving up in an industry that I’d given 12 years of my life to.
Finally, I feel like I’m in control of my life again. I’m writing things that I’m proud of daily, my relationship is better because I’m in a better mental state, and I still have supportive friends behind me who are willing to help me get to and from work for a few months so that I can save up for my own means of transportation.
“I went home and cried because for once, things were starting to look up. “
I was always so scared of changing my life because I was so positive that I could be good enough to be in a better position than where life had thrown me. I’m still in the process of getting to where I want to be, and I’m starting to get comfortable with the fact that these kinds of moves take time, but to get on the right track, I had to take a huge step first.
I go back to that post ever so often, and now, I don’t laugh when I read it. I smile because as basic as it reads, it’s true. If you want to get over a speed bump, you have to change things to get there. In reality, us working-class people don’t get things handed to us. It takes work, and the mentality to take the steering wheel of your life, and drive yourself forward.
The Nanny Life: Take Time For Yourself
Hey nanny, take time for yourself!

“ Attention all you nannies:
Are you ever just tired?
Like fall the fuck out exhausted? “
Via Tumblr
Have you ever wanted to crawl into the dryer and nap because no ione will ever think to look for you there?
Or maybe you have heard one too many screams from a child today and you honestly considered throwing yourself into oncoming traffic?
Well I’m here to let you know you aren’t alone and no, you aren’t crazy! (At least not yet)
Wow, I mean… KIDS. Holy shit dicks.
They are these tiny humans (more like gremlins) that manage to suck the living day lights out of you, and not even give a rats ass.
They never stop going. They never stop shouting or spitting or slobbering on your coffee table or smiling those goofy two teeth smiles. They just don’t ever STOP.
I mean by 5 PM I’m barely scraping myself off of the ground at the end of the day? Yet those little creatures keep on chugging along. And let’s not forget that after work, we have our own lives. WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN. We so easily put our personal lives on the back burners.. We have our own families and tasks and TV shows (sytycd) to watch and laundry(that never ends) to fold and dishes that are piling up to the ceiling.
Via Tumblr
How can you even find the energy? Where does it come from? Because we all manage to dig deep and find it! We just pull it out of nowhere.
Sigh, Even though I’d love to think I can handle EVERYTHING UNDER THE BRIGHT YELLOW SUN, truth be told, I cannot. Even I crack. Like really crack. Wide ass open.
I can’t remember the last time I woke up after 10 and was in bed before midnight.. Or a day where my feet didn’t ache or my head wasn’t pounding.. WHERE IS THAT LIFE? Where is that paradise island?!? SOS I AM OVER HERE!!
via Tumblr
To be honest, I’m just a walking zombie. Well, a uber cheery ass zombie. But a zombie none the less.
I know us nannies and even moms are just climbing to the top day by day. I know we are wearing so much armor and baby formula that our knees are shaking, but we never fall. We may have some cracks, some exposed pieces, but we are still whole. And for that, I am damn proud.
I think I’d like to take a moment to encourage every mom and nanny out there to remember what makes them laugh, remember how to feel alive. Remember the things that make you want to wake up in the mornings. Take those vacations. Take those car rides around the block just to get out of the house. Go lay out in the kitchen and shove your face full of left over lasagna and not give a flying shit. Just find your you time. (Even if a kid is dangling at your side)
YOU DESERVE IT.
The Nanny Life: Dealing With Needy Kids
Dealing with a needy kid is like scratching an itch that won't go away.
By, Macie R. (@simplemac6)
“You have a stage 5 clinger on your hands.”
via Google
No I’m not talking about the girlfriend/boyfriend type. I’m talking about the kid up your ass with a spiked bat type.
The pain in your side.
The one child that just sets your mood from great to not so great.
I have been dealing with this a lot as of late. I have one child in particular who SCREAMS at the top of her lungs the moment her mom drops her off in the AM. (Most kids don’t like to leave their mom so I understand the initial cry) but this screaming and whining and neediness doesn’t stop until she is walking out of the door at 5pm. (Can you say a long day)
She trails behind me all day long saying my name and begging me to hold her. I strictly have a no babying policy because it isn’t fair for one child to get more attention than the others.
Alas, It’s been a really big struggle for me because I do feel awful that she has such anxiety when it comes to separation but when is enough enough?
I’m trying to speak to her calmly and be as gentle when approaching her as humanly possible, but it tends to get extremely taxing.
via Google
A child’s cry would be the soundtrack playing in the background of my personal hell. Truly.
Mind you this child is new to me and I have only had her about two months.. so again, Ive been understanding, but she is throwing off my entire vibe and all of the other kids vibe. It’s a chain reaction. If one kid is pissed and upset, the others tend to feed off of that.
I have tried it all. Games, toys, outside time, movies, food, holding and pampering… yet nothing is working.
Via Google
At what point is it the parents job and not so much mine to help the child? The parents leave and don’t have to see it or deal with it. Which is tough for me.. is this an at home issue? Was there a traumatic experience to cause this fear?? I can’t quite seem to pin point it.
Things take time. I’m aware. Just holy moly. I could rip my hair out. Have a complete Brittany spears meltdown every time I hear her tiny whine.
Even Nancy drew couldn’t solve the mystery of this crying child.
The Nanny Life: Playing Favorites
Sometimes you’ll meet a kid who changes you too.
By Macie R.
Via Tumblr
I hate to play favorites with my kids… BUT.. I play favorites. More so “have” favorites. I have my certain top picks.. First drafts. Go to’s. You get it.
It’s absolutely unintentional, obviously…
I keep roughly about 9 kids throughout the week and two of them I can honestly say have stolen my heart. My soul. My entire. Even though I love them all, those two kids touch my life in different ways. Kindred spirits if you’d like to call it that.
One of the three can tell if I’ve had a shit day by just looking at me. I don’t even have to open my mouth, he just knows.. How I will never understand that. He will walk straight up to me and compliment my hair (even though it’s a rugged mess and I haven’t even brushed it that day). He just genuinely WANTS to be gentle and kind and affectionate. It’s a beautiful gift for a child to have. He really sees the world and wants to understand all that surrounds him. He would rather play with makeup than action figures, he would rather talk about God than mine craft and he would rather day dream about saving starving kids than make believe he’s a ninja turtle. He turns to me to keep his secrets.. He feels secure and safe knowing he is in a constant no judgement zone at my house. I am not here to condemn him for expressing himself. He is all around pure and good to his core. I really try to do my best to find ways and conversations to pull out his love of life and people. I never want him to feel that being aware and emotionally connected is ever ever a bad thing in this life.
Via Tumblr
Then there is my sweet girl. Woo wee.
Where do I begin? She’s the definition of light. As soon as I see her smile, I am instantly in the most joyful mood. She radiates love. Hearing her voice calling me Mae Mae.. words cannot begin describe the way I melt. Even though she may not “need” me, she sure does put me on a pedestal and I’m not mad about it one bit. Her giggles are infectious. Whatever she’s into, you’re into with her because you can’t tell her no. You can’t hurt her feelings. So you cave.. almost every time. Two popsicles in a row??? ABSOLUTELY! The bonus of this kid is she’s also family. So no matter how old she gets, she will always know me, she will never lose me. I will always be whatever she needs me to be. Being an aunt to her is the most rewarding gift I’ve been given besides my fiancé. This child is who I base my future child on. If they even remotely have the heart of this honey girl, I am going to be over the moon.
So yes.. I do baby these two. I do all the mushy gushy kid stuff with them. But I have no apologies. No regrets. All of my kids get every ounce of me during the week. EVERY OUNCE. But just at the end of the day, these are the two that stay fresh on my mind. The two that make what I do so fulfilling.
Go love on your babies.
Preschool: The Melt Down
By: Kayla N.
“In that moment she became a full blown kid, and I couldn’t have been prouder or more emotional.”
Via Google
“Send your kid to preschool it will be good for them” this is what everyone told me before I sent my child to Pre-K. Which to be honest may have been the scariest day of my life. If you’re a mom like me you prep, prep, and prep some more when you’re anxious. So you can only imagine the weekend before the first day of school how I was acting. All that I can say is that a chicken without its head had nothing on me.
I was anxious, sad, mad ,scared, and happy all at the same time. I thought that I had finally lost it because I was going completely crazy. Then I called a few friends for moral support and made a Facebook post asking other moms for their advice. Not to long after that, I realized that I was as normal as every mom that I knew. We were ALL going psycho about the first day of school! The supplies, the uniform (in my case), the hair, the earrings and so much more were overwhelming. All weekend long if I felt there was a teachable moment in anything that we did I was using it to explain to my daughter about what was to come in the following days.
Via Disney
Then the first day came and I wasn’t ready, it had come to quick and all of my planning and prep-work was pointless for what happened. The moment my daughter let go of my hand, gave me a kiss goodbye, said her sweet “I love you” and went into her class without a care. It was the proudest, most terrifying moment i ever had because my little girl was no longer a tiny little newborn, nor was she the toe eating toddler. In that moment she became a full blown kid, and I couldn’t have been prouder or more emotional. It was scary because she is my other half we do everything together, she’s my partner in fun.
I held back my tears as best as I could, but they quietly rolled down my face until I got into my car. Where I boohoo cried like she just went off to war, I couldn’t comprehend that this was the beginning of her life without me. After a good 20 minutes of heavy duty crying, I finally built up the courage to wipe my face and drive home. Big Step Right? Then I started to think about my amazing daughter and I realized that this was the best thing I could have done for her. She will not only learn independence; She will learn friendship, socialization, respect for other authority figures and self reliance.
So thank you to those millions of people who told me to send her to Pre-K. It will be great and now I realize that even though not every day is great, the little moments she will successfully have because of Pre-k are.
The Nanny Life: Appreciation
in which the nanny should always be appriciated for what she does.
By: Macie R.
Nanny (noun) : a friend, supporter, tear wiper, food prep, confidant, lonely soul, strong, messy haired, silly, tired as fuck, homework crusher, tight hug giver, diaper changing super human.
Via Tumblr
The list goes on and on my people.
I have been a nanny for 6 year. SIX YEARS. A lot to some, not a lot to others.. But certainly long enough to know the ins and outs of the operation.
I have seen and heard and hidden (for good reason) so many things in my time as a nanny.. The day you decide to watch someone’s child is the day you become bound to that family. Tied together by pieces of chewed bubblegum and spaghetti noodles.
I always thought watching children would be rainbows and butterflies and dancing unicorns.. But boy, oh boy was I a little off. The kids are only a minor part in the nanny world. It’s only a small piece in a whole big ass puzzle.
Of course there are gapped tooth smiles, cookie smeared kisses, endless giggles, action figure battles, dress up parties and baking treat extravaganzas.. But, There is also the part that involves the late evenings without warning, the years without a single “thank you” and the expectancy. Can you imagine going through your days basically running someone else’s household and you don’t get a hello… Or a thank you? Or even a little tap on the shoulder.. Maybe that’s expecting to much, but when I bust my ass to help raise your children, sometimes I need to hear that you are thankful for that time put in..
Don’t get me started on the “rules of the house”. How can I be expected to set rules and try to have some form of structure, balance and consistency, yet the parents can’t follow through with it.. I have found being a nanny tends to be a one sided street. The seclusion in the job itself is tough.. No adult interaction, no outside sources… Just the sounds of tiny humans running around like little gremlins.
Via Tumblr
Oh, and house hold chores? How can I clean your whole house and watch your kids yet the parent can’t? I can’t figure it out… How is it I can put all of your dishes away but on Monday morning you’ve let the sink over flow with disgusting plates? Mind boggling.Laundry? Psh I’ve folded more of the parents clothes than the children’s. (A Thank you? Nah) I have seriously peeled a grown ass mans shirt apart from being stuck together. Use your imagination… I HAVE SEEN SOME THINGS. Yet, never once complained to them. But here I am venting to the cyber world. 😏
But, yet we all keep doing the damn thing. We all keep pushing through because at the end of the day, we care.. Even when we dream of ripping our hair out and running our faces into walls… Even when your social life(what’s that) doesn’t really exist.. Even when we are so broken emotionally, but have to build 6 kids up because you never want them to go a day without knowing how fucking great they are. We still carry on.
The world wouldn’t survive without us nannies. The world wouldn’t survive without bomb ass parents. But to the parents who let their nannies go unnoticed.. Please take a moment to shower them with love. They aren’t just keeping your kids, they are loving your kids and are a major part in their growth.
Be kind, be gentle and most of all share it.
Here's A List of Fictional Queer Women Who Love Each Other.
by Kirsten F.
There's more to lady loving representation than the women on The L Word. No disrespect to a classic (I'm an Alice!) like The L Word, but there have been other women who represent what good lesbian love looks like!
I've compiled a list of *MY* favorite beautiful, carefree, fictional lady loving relationships that helped me during my time of coming out, and still make me smile when they come across my Television screen!
1. Spencer & Ashley aka "Spashley"
If you were like me then you were OD obsessed with South of Nowhere on the greatest TV station The-N (RIP). Spencer and Ashley had their share of fights, but those two gals truly loved one another... Even when the drama got to be too much. I'm almost certain Spashley sparked my lady loving interest, and if it wasn't them then it was my obsession with "All The Things She Said" by TATU. If you've never seen South of Nowhere I suggest you give it a chance! It only had a few seasons, BUT it's totally worth it!
2. Carmen & Shane (The L Word)
Let's be real, you're still pissed that Shane left Carmen at the alter. Let's be real again... You're still trying to find a bae to play "too hot" with ;). No matter how you felt about the brooding, womanizer that is Shane, you can't deny that her and Carmen were perfect for each other. Although, we should overlook the fact that they both dated that god awful Jenny. Even though they ended on such a terrible note, Carmen brought the best out of Shane.
3. Alice & Tasha (The L Word)
The creator of "The Chart" finally got herself a boo! Alice and Tasha were an odd pair to say the least. Through Alice's need to be in the spotlight, and Tasha's military background those two butted heads a lot. However, even in the midst of Tasha dealing with the DADT, and Alice outing people on purpose. These two lovebirds are a match made in lesbian heaven.
4. Poussey & Soso (Orange Is The New Black)
*sings in the arms of an angel*
I'm still mad at how their love story ends, and I'm still contemplating boycotting this show. Anyway, who doesn't love a good prison love story that doesn't include Piper and Donna from That 70's Show! Poussey and Soso's short lived romance was one for the books, they captivated our hearts during a prison outbreak. Their love will last a lifetime, and we will forever cherish them!
5. Naomi & Emily (Skins UK)
Oh Skins, such a classic show for the wild child's of the world. Naomi and Emily truly brought nothing but pure joy into our lives. As any seasoned Lesbian would know coming out in high school can be tough! Thankfully their love was strong, and they had each other to get through the rough patches. Unfortunately their love story ended in a tragic way, Naomi died of cancer in the series finale and well... I wept uncontrollably for days. However, these two ladies are a fan favorite in my book!
6. Lena & Stef (The Fosters)
Have you ever loved a married couple more than Lena and Stef? Truly these two are like my favorite magical beings of love and I can't get enough of them! Not only are they badass professional women, they're badass mom's as well. They teach their kids to be decent humans *cough* (except for Callie who can't seem to get it together) *cough*. If you haven't done yourself a favor and watched the hit drama that is The Fosters, do it right now! It's on Netflix so you can binge while you skip out on all the work you have to do!
7. Brittany & Santana (Glee)
GLEE!
Brittany and Santana were the unlikely pair that actually ended up making sense. Through all of their ups and downs (like that iconic slap that Satana delivered to Finn because she thought he outed her), to falling even more in love each and every episode. Nothing says a good high school experience like a lady love story.
8. Cricket & Jaycee (Hart of Dixie)
If you were as obsessed with this show as I was, then Cricket being a lesbian was a total shocker for you too! Let's be real, we ALL just knew her hubby Stanley was the closeted one, but we were wrong! Goes to show you that you really can't judge a book by its cover and sexuality, gender, and preference don't actually go hand in hand.
Did I forget a couple on this list? Leave a comment on who YOUR favorite fictional lesbian couple in the comments below!

The brand is also a trendsetting cult favorite among beauty bloggers and vloggers. Lime Crime is partially responsible for setting trends such as the unicorn craze. They even claim their products are "makeup for unicorns." Popular for their bright, vibrant colors, it only made sense that Lime Crime's newest collection would be Unicorn Hair.

Lime Crime's Unicorn Hair is a collection of "hyper-performance semi-permanent hair color." For just $16 USD, the 6.76 fl. oz. jars of Unicorn Hair dyes are vibrant, conditioning, long-lasting, and gracefully fades. The hair color comes in two formulas -- full coverage and tint. Girl Power Fashion
The feminist movement is upon us and it's not going anywhere.... as it shouldn't. Just like some like to voice their opinions with speech.... others like to do that with fashion. Here are some of my favorite girl power fashion items on the market. They will range from super affordable to luxury brands... so there will be something for everyone's price point.
Let's start off with .... Girl Gang!
This shirt comes from Forever21 and is super affordable at $14.90
Don't worry I have my plus size divas covered too with one from Forever21+ and it is priced at $17.90.
Another favorite of mine is by The Outrage with it's price at $32 and 15% of profits made from every item in the Nasty Women Unite line goes to Planned Parenthood. So let's throw in a pair of leggings from the line I love as well, as seen down below.
Let's not forget that it's great when women empower other women.
This one comes from Feminist Apparel and is only marked at $29.95. There is loads of other amazing shirts, sweatshirts, and even bags on this site.
I have to sum all of this up with Stella McCartney's great Thanks Girl handbag and matching book bag.
These lovely things are more on the high end of the price range starting in the $900's to just a little over $1,000. But if properly taken care of these beauts can last you a very long time and you can get your money's worth.
At the end of the day fashion is a movement in itself and you are able to speak through it. So all I have to say is this....
Here's to bad ass women. May we know them and may we be them!
Spring Clean Your Makeup Collection
Spring is finally here! It's time to spring clean our closets and everything else in our lives -- including our makeup collections. Keep reading for tips on how to spring clean your makeup collection.
Spring is here! While we're all trying to clean out our closets and detox our digital lives, why not take the extra effort to spring clean our makeup collections, as well? The point of spring cleaning is to let go of things we've been holding onto, whether they're tangible or intangible -- including makeup. If you're guilty of hoarding way past expired makeup, we're here to help! We're going to show you how to spring clean your makeup collection. Trust us, you'll feel a lot better after you do.
Regularly Clean Your Brushes & Sponges
The very first step to spring cleaning your makeup collection is to actually clean your tools, such as your brushes and sponges. Regularly cleaning your brushes and sponges will keep your tools free from bacteria. And less bacteria means less possibilities of breakouts and infections! You can buy makeup brush shampoo from the store or you could clean your tools with dish soap and olive oil at home. Check out the video tutorial below. The possibilities are endless. You just have to remember to clean your tools regularly.
Check the Expiration Dates
Another step to spring cleaning your makeup collection is to check the expiration date on the packaging. Just like the food in our fridges and the medicine in our cabinets, makeup products also have expiration dates. Keeping and using expired makeup is just as bad as not washing your brushes -- it can also lead to breakouts and infections! You want to be mindful of when you purchased your makeup and when they expire. That way, you know when to throw them away! Below is a video by POPSUGAR that explains makeup expiration dates and when to toss your makeup.
Keep it Minimal
The next step to spring cleaning your makeup collection is to keeping it minimal. According to the KonMari method, the key to happiness is to declutter and minimize everything in your life. This applies to your makeup collection, as well. When you're going through your makeup collection, ask yourself questions to help decide whether to toss or keep the item. Does that makeup item spark joy when you see or use it? Have you used it in the last 3-6 months? Has it reached its expiration date? All of these questions will help you minimize and spring clean your makeup collection.

Store Your Makeup
Once you've cleaned and minimized your makeup collection, you can finally store everything away! There are numerous ways to store your makeup and brushes. You can use acrylic trays, tin pots, drawer organizers, and so much more. To stay organized, designate a "home" for each makeup item. Keep reminding yourself that each item has a place where it belongs. And it should return to its home once you're done using it. This will help you spring clean your makeup collection and stay organized!

Full Moon Reading || 03. 13. 17

Happy Full Moon pals! This is the full moon right before Spring Equinox comes into play, and I've been feeling the effects since last week! This full moon kicked off in Virgo and made it's way into Libra. As an air sign, I always feel very light when the moon is in one of us. However, Virgo was so good to me, with finishing last details before kicking off some exciting adventures. Full Moon's are for self assessment, where are you at on your journey? What are you doing to aid your purpose? Have you taken time out to tend to your spirits needs?
What message do the cards have for you this week?

Clinging To The Past

Continue on your journey of healing , and self discovery. Let go of your past fears and let yourself enter the phase that has been knocking at your door. Don't hesitate in making your decisions, now is the time to really listen to that voice that you've been ignoring. Treating yourself by taking care of yourself is what's important right now. Dive back into the things that you find joy in or try something new. Try taking a pottery class, or a dance class! No matter what just put some self love into your daily routines.
Water
The Source

This card keeps making its appearance because The Source is spiritual and infinite energy. It is what feeds your soul and carries through you. Get to know your source, get to know you from the soul out. Just remember to take note that if you're vibing on lower frequencies and allowing outside forces to interfere you're not allowing your source to do its job. Now is the time to truly put your armor on and protect what's yours. You're the water, you can pick and choose what vibes you want on your current. Maybe it's time to lighten your load and remove the things that you haven't needed in a very long time.
Earth
Harmony & Friendliness

Treat yourself as well as you treat others, that's something you can forget often. As loving as you are Earth sign, sometimes it's nice to treat yourself too! These two cards suggest that when you put yourself as your main focus harmony will follow. It's kind of like this . . . Listening to yourself is living in a higher state & is good for the wellbeing of your purpose. Living a well balanced life is only true when all of ourself is in sync. Find comfort within yourself and allow your heart to guide you. Try wearing a Rose Quartz , or sleeping with one in or next to your bed. Burning or spraying your space with Frankincense is another aid to clearing out your space and making it comfortable. Visit your local botanica or metaphysical shop to pick some up this week! A clean space is a happy spirit!
Air
We Are The World
Create your wildest dreams, because what you manifest now will shape your future in every way. Spring Equinox is approaching next week, and it's the day where the Sun comes to us in Aries after relaxing all Winter long. It's also the Astrological New Year, and with all of these new beginnings what is yours? The flowers are getting ready to bloom, and the Earth comes to life once again. Don't forget that you are a flower too, you know what to do because it's who you are. Trust that you're protected, because Air sign you are insanely protected by the divine. Follow your instinct and create the world that you've been too scared to live in.
Tarot Cards Are a Girl's Best Friend.
by Kirsten F.

I've had an interest in tarot reading since the first time I heard Miss Cleo's "Call me now!" on late night infomercials. It was like this itch that I could never scratch, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Growing up in an Adventist household things like horoscopes, tarot reading and witchcraft weren't gonna fly. I always felt like I had this massive secret as a kid, how I would secretly day dream about having magical powers, and creating my own world. Reading Sabrina The Teenage Witch comics and thinking how I wanted to do what she did. Watching Practical Magic, Kiki's Delivery Service and The Craft like they were the only movies that mattered. Being a witch was always the most exciting thing to me. How you can use the Earth as a part of a spell. How you just know what to do, and trust that it'll go the way it's meant to. My teenaged years were filled with writing spells, reading The Drama High series, and sneaking on every horoscope site I could find. I also found myself weirdly drawn to a tarot reading fortune telling game on The-N.com.
(tbh they need to bring that site back)
I would ask it the most random questions, but somehow every time I got the answer I was looking for. I didn't know it then, but my intuition has always been very, very clear and strong. The day I purchased my very first deck it felt like I had finally plugged into a piece of me. Reading tarot cards have become a way of life for me, and sometimes for my friends as well. I find myself always giving readings when someone needs a little advice. Let me tell you this though, I can't read the future. I don't know what's going to happen in your life nor do I pretend to know.
The cards also don't know, however they present their message when it's needed. What they can tell you is what you need to hear in that moment, or what you already know. The magick behind the Tarot is listening, and being receptive to the message being presented to you. There's so many ways for a person to get into interpreting the tarot, and its many decks. I personally use The Osho Zen Tarot deck, and I've discovered that I like it more than the traditional (like the Rider - Waite) tarot cards. Choose whatever cards speak to you the most, because that's the most important thing when you're purchasing a deck.
Also, I'm not going to lie doing your first spread is a bit confusing sometimes. I found myself looking into other people's spreads for a bit of extra guidance. Which is okay, learn your craft! Whether you're being taught by someone or self teaching you can always find "study guides"! Creating your own spreads is also a great way to learn, allow your hands to create a space for you. Trust in your body, and know that whatever you're creating is coming to life for a reason.
Try pulling a card each day to get familiar with your deck, not only is that a good way to start recognizing what cards are present, but there's nothing like starting your day off with a good affirmation. There's so many different ways you can start reading tarot cards, and there's so much information about them online. That's the cool thing about being a mystical/spiritual/witch etc these days. We have access to so many different ways to create our magick.
Here's a few of my favorite spreads to get you started!
1. The Self - Esteem Tarot by The Hoodwitch

I've used a few of the spreadsthat Bri (The Hoodwitch) has suggested and created, and let me tell you she never disappoints. Check out how to read this self love spread HERE !
2. Universal 6 Card Spread by Lotus Tarot

I've been using this online spread for a few years now, I have always personally felt extremely connected to this spread for a number of reasons. No matter what your preference is, remember that your intuition is the leading factor. . . LISTEN! Check out this reading on Lotus Flower .
3. The 3 Paged Letter by K.R.

This is a spread that I created myself, I use it when I do quick readings for people! This spread is fairly simple to follow, from left to right;
1. A letter from your spirit guides.
2. A letter from your subconscious.
3. A letter from me to you.
I call them letters because they are messages being brought into your life & I (or you!) get to help deliver them. You can tweak this spread to whatever you need to. As always, magick is what you make of it so make it count! You can find more of my spreads on my Instagram and Snapchat!
What are some of your favorite spreads to use when interpreting the tarot?
How To Achieve An Easy No Makeup Makeup Look
The no makeup makeup look is in, or as some call it the natural look. Which is great for those girls, or boys, who don't have a lot of time to get ready every day but still want to have a beat face. I've seen hundreds of tutorials on how to achieve this look and what a lot of them have in common is that the look still takes you almost as long as a full beat would. I, personally, am really busy with life and some days I want to choose to sleep in thirty extra minutes over going full beat. I would like to think I have mastered a pretty quick and easy no makeup makeup look and the compliments I get seem to concur with my findings!
I've found the first step to a good no makeup makeup look is to have a fresh exfoliated and hydrated face. The reason why is because your skin is going to be the main focus of this look so you want it looking fresh and glowing. I won't go into what all I use, because honestly what you can use in skin care is up to the type of skin you personally have... and that's for another post!
After taking care of the skin we move on to the fun stuff.... makeup!
Step 1
Primer! Even when you're doing a quick look you always want to make sure to prime your skin, especially on this look. Remember the skin is the main focus and cake-y looking makeup isn't cute.
I have quite a few primers I use but my skin has started to become dry sans my nose. So my favorite primer to use right now is the N 28 Hydrating and anti-aging primer. It's all vegan and cruelty free as well! Now if you have oily or combo skin I would stick with their Veil Primer. Either primer is going to make your makeup waterproof, transfer proof, and sweat proof. You can purchase this item at select Sephora and Nordstrom stores or their personal site.
Step 2
Now that priming is out of the way I do a quick color correction. With this look I stick to just under the eyes, because no matter how many hours of sleep I get I still have dark circles and puffiness. But if you have other areas that really concern you then by all means correct away!
This product by Trish McEvoy is my new favorite item that I've found so far! It corrects and treats all at one time. The only draw back for me is that it only comes in two colors, I'm hoping this changes as fair and tan are not the only skin tones in the world. I honestly don't need any other concealer after I use this... if I'm going go full beat I will use a concealer to highlight but that's it. You can find this item at select Nordstrom or Nemein Marcus stores.
Step 3
Foundation is next. Feel free to use your favorite foundation for this. I would suggest a moderate to full coverage one to give you a flawless complexion.
My favorite (and quick) full coverage foundation right now is this AmorePacific one! It has SPF 25 but also has skincare, which I'm really big into wearing a foundation that helps treat the skin and not just cover up. It's a Korean beauty line and the skincare in the foundation is high end. I also have a hard time wearing any foundation with SPF but this one has not caused a single breakout. You can pick this up at select Sephora and Nordstrom stores or online on their personal site. Though with it being foundation I would suggest going and getting color matched as this does retail at $80 (you get two in one box though so really $40 a piece).
Step 4
Setting the foundation! This can be optional though with summer coming up I do like to set my foundation with a lightweight powder.
My favorite setting powder of all time is the Ambient Powder by Hourglass. They have six colors but my favorite is Dim Light. These powders are talc free so they don't leave you looking matte but instead leave a subtle glow. They also blur your features so it looks like you have an Instagram filter on, #nofilter needed then! Now if you tend to be oily and are afraid to use this powder I would say go with a loose setting powder, my favorite for that is Laura Mercier in translucent. The hourglass powder can be found the same places that the primer is!
Step 5
Giving your face some shape! When I do the no makeup makeup look I do not like to do a harsh contour and I never do it with a concealer or cream when doing this look.
Hoola is honestly one of my all time favorite matte bronzing powders! I use this to contour the face and nose and I even use it on my eyes to deepen the crease in my no makeup makeup look. I place this under the cheek, around the forehead, and down the nose and then crease of the eye. But if you don't contour all of those places just place it where you would like! By now I'm sure everyone knows where they can find this but I'll list a few stores... There is select Ulta, Sephora, Macy's, and of course their website. They also have a new Hoola Lite, which I can't wait to try!
Step 6
A pop of color! With all of that correction, foundation, and powder you'll be looking a little flat so I add a pop of color at this point.
My favorite blush to do this with is Nars Orgasm! I'm sure most of you already have this in your makeup bag, but if not it's a good staple to have. I don't use as much as I normally would because I just want a slight flush, so instead of using my usual blush brush I use one that's not as dense. You can find these at select Sephora, Nordtrom, Ulta stores or their own boutiques or online store.
Step 7
Highlight! Because I can't live without it. This step is completely optional, you don't have to do it if you do not want to.
I love the BH Cosmetics highlights. Their affordable and very pigmented. This four piece only costs $12.50! I don't go in with the highlight as much as I would if I was doing a full face. I take a fan brush and lightly apply to just the top of my cheeks and under the brow bone. You can find this palette on bhcosmetics.com
Step 8
Mascara! I choose not to use any type of liner with my no makeup makeup look but you can if you want.
This is a newish mascara from Clinique and it has three settings. I love it! It's the Flutter-To-Full mascara. I usually keep my setting on full because I like big lashes. It's a nice price point as well. I usually do two coats on each eye and call it good. You can find this as select Sephora, Ulta, Nordstrom, Macy, Dillards stores as well as Clinique's own website.
Step 9
Lips. I don't like to wear full on lipstick with a no makeup look or if I do it's a nude color. I usually go for a tint or stain.
Honestly the Clnique baby tints are my favorite for the look. Not only because they are affordable but also because they are hydrating and don't try my lips out. They give just enough tint to deepen my natural color on my lip and to complete the look! You can find this pretty much at all the stores I listed for the mascara. Clinique is a huge brand, so it should be no problem locating somewhere to go in store and browse their colors for this tint!
That's it! That is all I do for my no makeup makeup look! You can choose to set it with setting spray if you like or not. I choose not because my primer does a good job of holding up my makeup and I don't have a lot on so if I do need to touch up it's super easy. This look takes me about ten minutes max to complete and that's if I have music on and I'm performing to myself in the mirror. All of these items are of course changeable with your favorite products and just like skincare what might work for me might not work for you!
Don't Sit Down: A Benefit Standing with Planned Parenthood
On Saturday, March 4th, 2017, Best Coast hosted a benefit concert for Planned Parenthood. All proceeds went to the organization and our beauty editor, Valerie, was able to attend the event. Keep reading to get a summary of the concert and how YOU can help Planned Parenthood.

On Saturday, March 4th, Best Coast hosted a one night only event -- Don't Sit Down: A Benefit Standing with Planned Parenthood. The benefit concert was held at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles and the lineup consisted of notable female musicians and groups fronted by women such as Veruca Salt, Grouplove, and Liz Phair. All proceeds went to Planned Parenthood and the one-time event proved to be very successful.
Best Coast are an indie rock duo from Los Angeles. The two members of Best Coast are Bobb Bruno, guitarist, and Bethany Cosentino, singer-songwriter and guitarist. Since the band's inception in 2009, Best Coast have released three full-length studio albums -- Crazy for You (2010), The Only Place (2012), and California Nights (2015). Their music videos match their musical style. The video for "Our Deal" was inspired by West Side Story, directed by Drew Barrymore. More notably, the music video starred familiar faces such as Chloe Moretz, Miranda Crosgrove, Shailene Woodley, Tyler Posey, and Donald Glover (AKA Childish Gambino).
Lead vocalist, Bethany Cosentino, is an admirable and inspirational woman who will fight for a good cause. Scrolling through Best Coast's Twitter, which is mainly run by Bethany, you will learn that she opposes Trump, is a feminist, and supports Planned Parenthood. Bethany is so passionate about Planned Parenthood, she organized a benefit concert for the nonprofit in the midst of the its possible defunding.
The one-night event was held at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 4th. Up-and-coming bands fronted by women such as the Side Eyes, MUNA, and Lovely Bad Things, were opening acts. Nina and Louise of Veruca Salt also performed, bringing back angsty, grungy, girl power feels from the 90s. There was also a special appearance by Liz Phair, another notable female musician from the 90s. She and Bethany performed each other's songs. Grouplove played a fun and energetic set before Best Coast closed the night.
The benefit event was definitely a memorable night and according to Best Coast's Instagram, the concert attendants "raised a shit ton of money for Planned Parenthood." For a more in-depth summary of the event, check out Billboard's article by Eve Barlow. It was truly a remarkable experience and you had to be there to feel the love and empowerment. But the fight is nowhere near over. The fate of Planned Parenthood is still up in the air. Call your representatives. Participate in the next rally or march. Spread the word on social media. And if you can, please donate to Planned Parenthood.
Festival Season Is Upon Us...
It's that time of year again.... Festivals are starting to happen all around the world. It's also the time of year where people love to put together cute outfits for said festivals and post them all to their social media. While most of us are up on worldly news, like culture appropriation... sadly some have not quite caught up. So I thought I would piece together five cute, yet appropriate festival outfits.
Look #1
Look #2
Look #3
Look #4
Look #5
These outfits took me no time to piece together and I can name plenty of department stores where you can walk in and find similar pieces all within the same floor or section. I know colorful headpieces or gorgeous Bhindi jewelry might just make your outfit "pop", but trust me when I say.... It's for all the wrong reasons.
Let me leave you with this....
My number one rule when piecing together an outfit for festivals is ask yourself this.... Would this *insert item here* offend a group of people? Here's the answer.... if you're having to ask yourself that.... then you probably shouldn't wear it.

5 Oscar Snubs We Need to See
If you watched the Oscar Awards like I did on Sunday, then you know the big winners were La La Land, Moonlight, and Manchester by the Sea. For the most part anyway. And while all of those are on my must-watch list, there are some films that didn't take home an award, but from what I hear, are worth watching. I mean, they've gotta be good if they were nominated, right?
If you watched the Oscar Awards like I did on Sunday, then you know the big winners were La La Land, Moonlight, and Manchester by the Sea. For the most part anyway. And while all of those are on my must-watch list, there are some films that didn't take home an award, but from what I hear, are worth watching. I mean, they've gotta be good if they were nominated, right?
Here are my top 5 picks of Oscar-nominated films that weren't big winners, but are certainly on my to-do list.
Lion
Alright, so first off, I've been in love with Dev Patel (who plays the adult version of the film's protagonist) since I saw him in Slumdog Millionaire. Then, I discovered the world that was Skins. So whenever I see something with his name attached to it, I'm already dying to see it. Lion is a film about a man who was separated from his family as a boy, and returns to his home village to find them. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, but didn't win in any of the categories. This is definitely the first on my list.
Hell or High Water
So, this one I caught the tail end of while visiting a friend one day, and from what I saw, it's worth a watch. Hell or High Water hits home because it's based on a true story that happened right here in good ol' Texas. The film is a modern-day Western set in rural Texas, and focuses around two brothers who are polar opposites, but somehow pull off a string of bank robberies in an attempt to save their family's land. The film stars Chris Pine, Ben Foster, and Jeff Bridges, and was nominated for four Academy Awards.
Arrival
This film is an exception to the list because it did take home the Oscar for Best Sound Editing (one of its eight nominations of the night). What makes me excited to see this film is its plot. Arrival is based off of the book, Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang, and is about a linguist (portrayed by Amy Adams) who is called by the military to help translate an alien language after several of their spaceships land on Earth. During her encounters with the aliens, she begins having vivid visions of her deceased daughter. Even though it sounds far-fetched, I think it's definitely worth at least trying to watch.
Moana
Once again, my undying love for Lin-Manuel Miranda has taken over my sense of reason. Since I found out he had signed on to write on the soundtrack for the film, I was bound to be hooked. While I've had the soundtrack on repeat for months, I still have yet to sit down, and watch Disney's newest film. Moana was nominated for two Academy Awards, and even though it was beat out by both Zootopia (which I loved) and La La Land, the reviews I've read point me in the direction of this being a must-watch. Moana, named for the movie's heroine, is set on the Polynesian island Motunui, and sees Moana off on an adventure with the demi-God Maui across the ocean where she discovers new things about herself, and how far she's really willing to go. While I'll probably wait until the movie's released on Redbox, and watch it with my niece and nephew, I'd say this film is probably for anyone, young or old, who's a real Disney fan.
Jackie
There was a lot of buzz surrounding this film when it was first announced, but it didn't seem to harness a huge fan base like La La Land and Moonlight did. Or perhaps it was just released too early. All I know is, biographical films are my favorite kind. Nominated for three Academy Awards, Jackie stars Natalie Portman as the titular character Jackie Kennedy. The movie chronicles her days in the White House as President John F. Kennedy's First Lady, and the days following his assassination. Based off of an article written by Theodore H. White for Life magazine, it's sure to be both an entertaining and educational experience.
If you're a movie buff like me, and are stuck on what movie to watch when you're spending a night at home alone, then I suggest one of these five Oscar-nominated films sure to quench whatever genre thirst you may have, and if you do, be sure to let us know by following us on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or checking out our Facebook page.

Past Lives

Get ready for change to come your way very, very soon. However, what kind of change that is depends on your vibrational level. If you're vibrating on a lower level that is what sort of energy will form in your life. Your thoughts, emotional thought, and spirit alignment are all apart of what you manifest. If you've got some bad vibes sticking around do a cleanse, do a protection spell, or whatever it is that you need to turn your spiritual volume up a notch. Know this, you have the power to decide what comes of your life.
Air (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra)
Turning In

This card has been making it's rounds recently, and for good reason too. The spirit guides are screaming this message of vibing with oneself now. Listening to your intuition is more important than ever now. As air signs you are quite in tune with the universe and you feel it speaking whether you want to admit it or not. That content, focused, and sure feeling that's making place in your life is a good thing. You've tuned/are tuning into your own frequencies. Own your truth and live in a state of higher consciousness. LISTEN to yourself and trust that your instinct, spirit guides, and whatever else you believe in will guide you. Your journey is yours and only yours so make it count.
Earth (Taurus , Virgo, Capricorn)
Schizophrenia

You've probably been going back and forth with yourself over a lot of things recently. Do yourself a favor and stop worrying and just do it. There's honestly no debate once you actually listen to your inner self. Trust yourself to make the right decisions, and watch how your aspirations become more than just a dream life that you think about. Push fear, doubt, and control out of the way. Everything you've ever wanted can be yours if you just learn how to change your tone. Stop speaking to yourself as if it isn't who you are, how you view yourself is a huge part of how your manifestations become a reality.

The Fool + Slowing Down
When people think of the word fool they often think of the definition of foolish or foolishness with it. On the surface they may mean similar things, but spiritually they are inherently different. Being a spiritual fool is simply trusting that you'll always be okay. Having blind faith that your instinct will always guide you in the right direction. Going with the flow of your own personal current instead of being caught up in whatever society has thrown out. Slowing Down and The Fool presenting themselves as a pair is very important. Your message is loud and very, very clear. Slow your roll and really focus on yourself and your divine purpose. Stop trying to solve all of your own problems through logic, maybe it's about time you give faith a chance.
Have a luniarious week/end!

How To Be A Money Conscious Fashionista
I think it’s safe to say that everyone wants to look good on a budget. There are a few tricks and tips that I have picked up over the years by being an avid shopper and by working with and around fashion.
Rule 1: Do NOT Impulse Buy!
We have all been there, you see a cute dress or a pair of shoes that will go great with this pair of shorts you own and we buy it without thinking. This is how I’ve ended up with almost the same exact dress in the same exact color in my closet. I snap a quick pic on my phone and then I go home to sleep on it and make sure I don’t own three other tops just like it. If I wake up and still feel like I want the item I then eventually make it back into the store to pick it up….. The bad habits of living ten minutes away from an amazing mall!
Rule 2: Always Try On Your Clothes
How many times have you grabbed something because it looked cute on the mannequin but when you got the article of clothing home it didn’t look the same? Let’s be honest with ourselves, we never go and return that item of clothing. No, instead it ends up at Goodwill or Buffalo Exchange completely new and then you’re out on some money. So if I don't have time to try it on then I say to myself it obviously wasn't meant to be or I make time to go back later and try it on. This has ended up saving me a lot of money in the end.
Rule 3: Always search for sales
A quick google search can show you which stores are having the best deals. I’ve found that while not all the same brands are carried throughout different department stores all the brands carried inside have similar looking clothing items. Even target has an app (Instacart) where they do different percentages off of clothing from time to time and you usually get an email that alerts you to all the new deals going on. I have planned many shopping trips around sales and have come out saving hundreds of dollars.
Rule 4: Expensive doesn’t always mean great quality
Everyone dreams of owning something from some luxury name brand or made by or supported by some random celeb. Just because something is high price or supported by someone who makes high dollars doesn’t mean that it’s good, lasting quality. Do not pay a high cost for clothes that won’t last through five washes. That’s why it’s always important to read reviews across multiple platforms on high priced products before you buy.
Rule 5: Sign up for Rewards
A lot of stores now have some type of rewards program. Rather that be in the form of you just giving them a phone number or getting a credit card from them. A prime example to use is Nordstrom, they have three different ways to earn rewards and money back. The first is you just supply them with your phone number and email address and you earn 1 point for every dollar spent and once you reach so many points gained then you get what is called a “note” which is as good as having cash at their store. Then there is the debit and credit options. Debit is connected straight to your bank account and the money comes out immediately or you can apply for a credit card. You earn 2x the points for every dollar spent with either of those options, plus a slew more benefits comes with those. With that said…. Be careful if approved for the credit card it is money that has to be paid back!
